New Visitors

Welcome!  First Covenant is a family, centered in Christ, founded upon the Bible and dedicated to unity and outreach through prayer, spiritual growth, and fellowship.  We hope you’re comfortable and encouraged in your visit with us.

We’ll try to address some of the questions you may have.

Our Roots:

The Evangelical Covenant Church was founded in 1885.  We come out of historical Christianity through the Protestant Reformation.  The church’s distinctive spirit has been further shaped by our early origins in the Lutheran Church of Sweden, the great spiritual awakenings of the 18th and 19th centuries, and the more recent North American renewal movements.  The Evangelical Covenant Church is committed to reaching across boundaries of race, ethnicity, culture, gender, age, and status.

Worship Services:

Generally there are nursery services available for toddlers and infants during our worship services.  The nursery is at the end of the west hallway.  Feel free to take your kids to the nursery and introduce them to our nursery care providers.

If you prefer to keep your children with you during worship, please do!  Children are welcome in the sanctuary; we love to know they’re there.  There is a children’s library just outside of the nursery if you’d like to get some books for your kids to read during church.

Speaking of libraries, there’s also an adult resource center in the Fellowship Hall, which is to the halfway down the hallway to the nursery.  Feel free to take a look!

The pastors have a special time for the kids during the worship services.  When it’s time, they’ll call all of the kids to the front for a story and prayer.

Ushers are available to help you, whether it be with questions, finding a place to sit, or providing you with a bulletin for the service.  Hearing-impaired devices are also available upon request.  Just ask one of the ushers for assistance.

We use what’s known as a “blended” style of music during our worship services.  That means that during each service we combine the old traditional hymns with the contemporary praise songs of today.  We use a projector and screen to aide in the worship service.  Words to the hymns are shown on the screen, but there are hymnals in the pews if you prefer to use them instead.

Be sure to sign the attendance book at the end of the pew.  If you’d like us to call on you for any reason, be sure to talk to one of the pastors or make mention of it on the attendance sheet.

Being a part of the Evangelical Covenant Church means we work together with other churches in the area and around the world in mission, service, education, and justice. Check the Evangelical Covenant website for more info on the Covenant denomination.  If you'd like to know more about this local church, what's going on, and what might work for you, give us a call.  One of the pastors would love to get together and visit with you.

 We’re glad you’re here!
